How to maintain and care for your Tactical Watch

Swiss Quartz Tactical Watches are Tough. But They Need Care.

A Swiss Quartz tactical watch is a reliable and sturdy timepiece designed for the modern man. These watches are built to withstand tough conditions, but proper care and maintenance are still essential to keep them functioning optimally. At Smith & Bradley, we design tactical watches to withstand everything except neglect.

Here are some tips on how to maintain and care for your Swiss Quartz tactical watch.

Cleaning a Tactical Watch

Tactical watches are made to get dirty. Rolex doesn’t make a tactical watch for a reason. These are watches that go with you into the woods. Or the ocean. Or the warzone. They will get dirty.

Regular cleaning is important to keep your tactical watch looking new and prevent any potential damage from long term exposure to mud, dirt or anything else. To clean your Swiss Quartz watch, start with the face. Use a soft, damp cloth or a watch cleaning solution. Be sure to avoid using abrasive cleaners or scrubbers that could scratch the watch face. For the case and strap, use a soft brush and a mild soap solution, if necessary. If you do use a mild soap or watch cleaning solution, don’t forget to rinse thoroughly with a clean, damp cloth. Finally, dry the watch with a soft cloth.

Then go get your tactical watch dirty again.

Battery Replacement for Quartz Watches

Swiss Quartz watches rely on batteries to function, so it is important to know how to replace the battery when it runs out. Most Swiss Quartz watches have a battery life of around three to four years. We offer a battery replacement service for our watches. And we recommend having the battery replaced by a professional watchmaker. All watches are sensitive instruments than can be easily damaged once the case is removed.

If you are confident in your skills, you can replace your own battery. Wear gloves and use watch tools to do this. Simply remove the back of the watch using a specialized tool (depends on the watch), remove the old battery without touching any other parts, and insert a new one. Dive watches typically have a gasket that helps seal the back of the watch. Be sure this is properly in place and greased. Then replace the back and continue enjoying your watch.

Storing your Tactical Watch

Proper storage is important to maintain your watch's performance and prolong its lifespan. We send a watch box or storage solution with our watches. Store your watch in a dry, cool place, away from sunlight or other heat sources. Using a watch box can protect your watch from dust or damage.

Leaving watches on a dresser or shelf for extended periods can cause problems. If you don’t have a good storage solution, lay a dry cloth over your watch to protect it from dust.

Regular Servicing of a Swiss Quartz Watch

To ensure your watch's long-term durability and performance, have it serviced by a professional watchmaker every 5-7 years. We also offer a Swiss Quartz Service for Smith & Bradley watches.

Quartz servicing from a watchmaker can include cleaning, lubricating, testing the quartz mechanics, insurance water resistance, and checking for any potential issues. Regular servicing can extend the lifespan of your watch and prevent any significant damage that may occur over time.

Tactical Watches Made to be Worn

True tactical watches are not made to sit on a shelf. At Smith & Bradley, we design watches that are made to be worn every day. They can withstand use a lot easier than they can withstand neglect. Wear your watch and let it handle the tough problems you encounter. Tactical watches are made to go with you into any situation.

But a watch is still a finely tuned mechanical tool for you. By following the advice above, you can keep your Swiss Quartz tactical watch in top condition and ensure that it will continue to serve you well for a lifetime. Remember to take care of your watch as you would with any other valuable possession, and it will reward you with accurate and reliable timekeeping even in tough situations.
